The wax structure is dipped into a slurry (thick yellow liquid called 'primecoat') and then into ceramic powder (molochite). This procedure is repeated several times with fine and then coarse molochite. The wax is then melted out.

The casts are fired in a kiln to 850C to form a heat proof mould into which the bronze will be poured
